The Nunavik Police Service has an essential role in Nunavik communities of serving and protecting citizens by participating in community activities, preventing and investigating crimes, responding to emergency calls, promoting road safety and testifying in court.
The police officer’s first order of business is to serve and protect. NPS police officers serve their communities by helping and protecting citizens in times of crisis and emergencies. They issue traffic violation tickets to dangerous and careless drivers. They arrest and sometimes detain people to protect citizens and to deter illegal and dangerous behaviour. When on duty, NPS police officers answer calls for service. Some calls involve major crimes and many involve minor incidents such as noise complaints or traffic incidents. Police officers are also trained in first aid and CPR to aid injured people.

Positions:
Helper – Laborer
Duties include, but are not limited to, moving material to and from work areas, helping out in all areas of operations and the roles below, assembly assignments using drawings and spec sheets, install decals, sanding/grinding tanks, learning to calibrate tanks and check for leaks. There is possibility for advancement in different areas.
Journeyman Welder/B Pressure (and apprentices)
Welders and Helpers are required to perform duties such as but not limited to repairs to tanks and tank trailers including fit and weld suspension, fit and weld aluminum, fit and weld steel and stainless steel, fabricate body components, and repair as necessary, B620 inspections and certification. When not welding, is required to aid in the performance of other aspects of trailer service or help out in other areas. Skills Required: Welding – SMAW, GMAW and GTAW, all positions. B620 experience will be gained if not already certified.
Journeyman Trailer Mechanic (and apprentices)
Trailer Mechanics are required to perform duties such as but not limited to inspect tanks and tank trailer systems and components to diagnose and isolate repairs required, B620, CVIP and other provincial standards as necessary. Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of tank trailer systems including trailer electrical and electronic systems, trailer landing gear assemblies, trailer frames, hitching and coupling systems, trailer bodies, trailer suspension parts, tires, wheels, rims, hubs, axles, air and auxiliary systems, trailer braking systems, hydraulic systems, using hand tools and other specialized repair equipment. Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer’s performance specifications. Perform scheduled maintenance service.
