As a provincial community coordinator for the Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities Program we bring employees and employers together by providing a wage subsidy to employers to hire a person with a disability. This program provides a subsidy of 60-80% contribution of the current minimum wage rate to a maximum of 36 weeks. Employers will contribute 20-40% of participant’s wages as well as the mandatory employment related costs (MERCS) and Workers Compensation fees. Participants are offered dependent care and transportation where appropriate and required. Disability supports and adaptive technology set-up assistance is available to all participants that require them to have a successful transition to the workforce.



Connector NL helps new residents and recent post-secondary graduates grow their professional network and connect with career opportunities in Newfoundland. Need help finding a job in St. John’s, Central ,or Western Newfoundland? This highly effective networking program will put you directly in touch with Connectors – business owners and operators, managers, civil servants and community leaders in our province who work in the same field as you. Big Brother Big Sister provides direct service to children by matching volunteers and youths in quality mentoring relationships. Our agency staff members are experts at screening volunteers and matching them with a mentee having similar interests. Each year over 350 dedicated volunteers provide over 24,000 volunteer hours to more than 450 young people in our community. The national organization provides services and programs to our member agencies to assist them with their work with parents, mentees, and volunteers. Ranging from staff training workshops to our leading Child Safety Program, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada works diligently to ensure we have superior quality programming in all parts of the country.

The Office to Advance Women Apprentices (OAWA), funded by the provincial government of Newfoundland & Labrador, was created in 2009 with a mandate of increasing employment opportunities for females in the skilled trades. OAWA works with female apprentices once they complete their in school training to assist them in finding employment opportunities with the ultimate goal of achieving journeyperson status. OAWA has established partnerships with employers, unions, government and training institutions in helping to accomplish these goals. We are dedicated to ensuring that there are employment opportunities for female apprentices.
